DELISH MACKEREL

I hope you had a wonderful weekend, and a good start to the week. I love all kinds of fish and actually grew up eating fish more so than meat. Mackerel was at the top of that list of fish I used to eat while growing up. And sometimes when my mom was making them I’ll sneak up behind her and steal one of the fish :). What made me more interested in mackerel was the fact that it had Omega 3 fatty acids which my doctor keeps telling me to eat more of or get the supplements.

If you eat a lot of these Delish Mackerel you’ll make your Doctor very happy!

  1. Gut your mackerel and wash thoroughly inside out with water till their nice and clean
  2. Put your fresh fish in a bowl and mix up your spices and sprinkle over mackerel
  3. 3. You can either deep fry it for 10 minutes or roast it in your oven for 30 minutes (which is a much healthier option). In my case I fried because I was starving at the time.
  4. Serve this wonderful mackerel with rice, salad, yams, etc.

My husband asked me to fix a mackerel dish just the other day. He says he’s getting burned out on Salmon. I love how simple this is – and the cumin is a nice touch.

I’m glad your husband likes it, it has the Omega 3 fatty acids just like salmon but a little more reasonable. Thanks Alicia!

I’m not a fan of fish but I grew up on fresh fish and legumes. My husband is a die hard fan of fish dishes.

    1. Fred Nonterah

You know for some reason mackerel is not a fish I have ever cooked. I don’t even remember ever eating it either. I know I can get this for sure at the fish market. I will have to give this a try.

This is actually a fish I have never tried, it looks so simple to cook up too. My hubby and I are always saying we need to eat more fish, maybe tossed with some arugula I would love this!

    1. Fred Nonterah

Yeah, we found this store where the fish is really reasonable so we eat a lot more fish lately.

Mackerel is popular in the southern US but its most often smoked. I’ve never had it baked or fried. I must try your method.

    1. Fred Nonterah

I love mackerel especially smoked mackerel. I’m from Scotland and totally miss it since moving to Italy, it’s so expensive here.

    1. Fred Nonterah

Oh my, I love smoked mackerel as well. Since my Mom is here with us this summer I would ask her to make some mackerel for us.

I’ve had mackerel a lot and like it a lot smoked, weirdly I haven’t cooked it at home before.
This would be great for a weeknight meal. Thanks for sharing Fred!
